Meet Steph, Founder and Lead Trainer
Steph Ball-Mitchell
E-RYT-500, RPYT, RCYT, YACEP, C-IAYT, LPC, CAADC
Steph has over 25 years of experience in yoga and movement. Her understanding of yoga and the human body has been shaped by a lifelong background in dance and holistic health, as well as her own healing journey. Through her teaching, Steph helps students experience the joy of integrating mind and body while cultivating an authentic, life-nurturing practice rooted in breath, awareness, and presence.
With her background as a Licensed Professional Counselor, Steph brings a grounded, compassionate approach to her classes with a strong emphasis on nervous system regulation, breath awareness, and embodied movement.
She completed her 200-hour with Maty Ezraty, her second 200-hour training with Nancy Candea at Yoga Impact in New Jersey and her 300-hour training with Chris Loebsack. The perpetual student, Steph has studied with Leslie Howard, Travis Eliot, Bryan Kest, Donna Farhi and countless others. She has extensive training in pelvic floor yoga, restorative yoga, yin yoga, power yoga and accessible yoga. Steph was certified as a Grand Master of Meditation through Swami Vidyanand and Level One and Two Kundalini through Mehtab Benton. Most recently, Steph was certified as a yoga therapist through Dr. Jaime Stover Schmitt at Spanda Yoga Movement Therapy.
After years of studio ownership, Steph founded the original online yoga school to remove financial and accessibility barriers to yoga education worldwide. Since then, Lifted Lotus has grown to support the entire journey of yoga teachers through training, continuing education, and daily practice.
When she isn't on her mat, Steph can be found volunteering, enjoying time with her husband and children, dancing, and cooking. She previously served on the Education Committee of Yoga Alliance and places a strong emphasis on inclusivity in her teacher trainings.
FAQ: Lifted Lotus Online Yoga School's Continuing Education Yoga Courses and Workshops
Frequently Asked Questions Online Yoga School
Do I need to be a certified yoga teacher to take these courses?
No! While many of our students are certified yoga teachers earning their continuing education hours, anyone with a passion for yoga is welcome to enroll. Whether you're a seasoned instructor looking to specialize in Yin Yoga or Breathwork, or simply someone who wants to deepen their personal practice, these courses are designed for all levels.
How many continuing education hours do I need to maintain my Yoga Alliance registration?
Yoga Alliance changes from time to time, so we recommend checking with them.
Can I take these yoga courses if I am not a yoga teacher?
Yes, our courses are open to everyone and we welcome all.
What specialty certifications do you offer?
We offer a wide range of specialty certifications including Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga, Advanced Yin (Journey Through Meridians), Chair Yoga, Accessible Yoga for Larger Bodies, Trauma-Informed Kids Yoga, Breathwork & Pranayama, Yoga Nidra, Meditation (200-hour), Mindfulness, Ashtanga, Ayurveda, Yoga Philosophy, Yoga Mythology, Chakra Healing, and more. Each certification includes a certificate of completion and counts toward your Yoga Alliance continuing education hours.
Are these courses self-paced or do they have deadlines?
All of our continuing education courses are completely self-paced and 100% online. There are no deadlines, no scheduled class times, and no pressure. You get lifetime access from the moment you enroll, so you can learn on your own schedule — whether that's early mornings before your classes or late nights after the kids are asleep.
Will I receive a certificate when I complete a course?
Yes! Every course includes a certificate of completion once you finish all the required modules. You can use this certificate to log your hours with Yoga Alliance and add the specialty credential to your teaching resume. It's a great way to stand out and show your students that you're committed to growing as a teacher.
Which course should I start with if I'm not sure?
It depends on your goals! If you want to broaden the types of classes you teach, start with a specialty like Restorative Yoga or Yin Yoga — they're hugely popular and very in demand. If you want to deepen your knowledge, Yoga Philosophy or Breathwork & Pranayama are excellent choices. And if you want to serve more diverse populations, check out Chair Yoga or Accessible Yoga for Larger Bodies. Not sure? Reach out — we're happy to help you choose!
What is YACEP and why does it matter?
YACEP stands for Yoga Alliance Continuing Education Provider. It means our courses are officially approved by Yoga Alliance, so the hours you complete with us count directly toward your continuing education requirements. This is important for maintaining your RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher) status with Yoga Alliance.
